It is a simple and commonly used test to indicate how much body fat you have in your torso region and whether you are at risk of ongoing health issues (National Heart Foundation, 2015). In most cases a higher waist measurement is associated with an increased risk of chronic diseases (Shape Up Australia, 2015) including Type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure and heart disease (ABS, 2012). Weight loss is beneficial in almost all areas of health as it reduces the risk of chronic diseases and other health complications (National Heart Foundation, 2015). This test was chosen as it is a simple test regularly used by health professionals to quickly gain a broad understanding of the individuals overall health status. Blood Pressure Blood pressure is the pressure of blood in the arteries and is typically written as a ratio (American Heart Association, 2015). The systolic value measures arterial pressure during the cardiac contraction phase and the diastolic value measures the pressure as the heart relaxes before the next beat (Journal of Science and Medicine in Sport, 2015).
